Unfolding

I really enjoy the ‘ being in the zone ‘ feeling when my focus is turned inward and all time is lost, that is when I am fully engaged in creativity. Strong

Image
This poem was written at a time when my strength and faith were needed the most.  My family and I were waiting for news of my son, Matthew, who at that time was missing. As my mind was screaming, my heart was hoping. Strong Like a mountain standing  strong   Love and faith can do no  wrong   What once was, now is  gone   As life begins, a different  song   Stripping bare, to see what’s  there   The naked truth behind the  glare   Revealing what is in us  all   A need to rise and then to  fall   In the stillness from the  sounds   A peace untold is what is  found   Where strings on hearts become  unbound   And love forever, does  surround   © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2016  –  Expression #72   20.12.16 –  cherylmarycoleman.com If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. Sacred Place

Image
Walking in nature with my dog Jet, a beautiful black Labrador Retriever has a calming effect on both my mind and body.  If I am feeling stressed and disconnected, I allow us both the time to blend with our local surroundings.  We often visit  Grandfather Tree  who sits majestically in a quiet piece of the saved Australian bush at the bottom of my road. One particular day I found myself well out of sorts trying to process grief that often engulfs me, even still.  Grabbing the lead and nursing my heavy heart found myself under the arms of Grandfather tree. Sacred Place My dog is softly panting, his ears are pricked, alert Beneath the tall strong guardian, myself, I sit inert Together we watch the ants, as they soldier to and  fro Along the broken branches, that seem to be their home The birds are circling close now, they are coming in to land Upon more broken branches that fell to join the land  This space is very calming, no resistance do I feel Just gentle flo

A Soul's Salve

Image
Although they were written three months apart this particular poem compliments  Chilling  in that once again nature is the subject.  I always seem to find  peace and comfort amongst the energy of Mother Earth. A Soul’s Salve The gravel crunches noisily, beneath my feet so  bold Along the winding path, through ancient trees of  old   Light glints through the leaves, hanging a canopy  overhead And veering from the pathway, chose another route  instead   Snapping of the twigs, scatter the creatures, large and  small From impending doom that threatens, from each, of my foot  falls ” I didn’t mean to startle, that truly, was not my  aim or  cause you any suffering, on you, I make no  claim”   “I only wish to join you, in the, peace and  solitude w hilst  meandering, amongst you, and to feel, my heart  renewed” ”I promise to be quiet, to give, and not to take t his  place that you call home, is salve, for a soul that  aches ”   “ So let me walk betwixt you, an

Chilling

For me there is nothing quite like nature to give me a lift and a recharge, especially when I lose focus or am feeling directionless. I wrote this poem one Sunday morning in Baldivis, Western Australia whilst sitting in my friend’s beautiful garden.  I could feel a calming gentleness in the air as I sat to appreciate the morning sunlight and enjoyed watching my friend as she engaged with her garden. Chilling I see the water glistening, as it sets upon the leaves And feel the gentle movement, as the wind blows through the trees The dappled shadows settle to, protect the delicate flowers Standing tall, the pastel blooms resemble leaning towers. A curious insect comes to check, if I am friend or foe As the sun surrounds my body and my skin begins to glow I love to sit with nature on these mild and sunny days Reminding me to take the time to soak up all the rays © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2017 – Expression #172 18.10.17 – cherylmarycoleman.com If you like thi

Sky Cries

Sky Cries The sky cries gentle drops of  rain That form spattering patterns upon the  ground Rivulets of water running here and  there Freely flowing to who knows  where A solitary bird up in a  tree Sings songs of gratitude to the  sky Mother Earth in all her  glory Receives these blessings to continue her  story © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2016  –  Expression #6 31.8.16 If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. Summit

Image
Struggles and strife find all of us somewhere on our journey through life, but it is often during such times that strength stretches us to become more than we thought we were. I love connecting with people, because firstly, finding myself surrounded by like minded people is so encouraging, supportive and inspiring.  But meeting new people from different walks of life can challenge previous misconceptions and help to change the view of life from their perspective.  This always brings a breath of fresh air to my circle of awareness. Whatever our differences are, each of us are living our own unique way and that is something I feel is always worth recognising and admiring. Summit How the sands of time do shift A lesson, when learned, becomes a gift Like the ebb and flow of waves Life moves those who become the brave To fight and stand for passions held Within one’s heart where love does meld Let no man, thought or fearful deed Keep you from your soul’s true need

The Dark

Image
I love to listen to nature first thing in the morning as everything is waking up, but night time has an eerie quality about it, magnifying all sounds, especially bumps in the night!! The Dark The sky tonight is inky black and no stars, can I  see   An eerie silence hangs in the air, as life it seems, did  flee   My eyes do search to look beyond what seems to be the  end   The garden wall holds back the night in case it’s just  pretend   Then comfort comes to break the night, from a bullfrog in the  park   A welcome sound that let’s me know, I’m not alone within the  dark © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2017  –  Expression #142  31.5.17 If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. The Egg

Image
I was visiting Grandfather Tree one day in October 2017, when out walking with Jet my Black Labrador Retriever. Deciding to sit for a while under the huge expanse of this majestic tree, I caught sight of a broken eggshell that I can only assume had fallen from the nest high above. As Jet went off exploring I let my imagination flow back towards the egg and its long departed resident. The Egg The eggshell that’s hatched upon the  ground Is now devoid of flesh and  sound The spark of life, like fire  ignited The being within, that since has  flighted   Completing it’s challenge, of breaking  through The safety zone, that it  outgrew   Each moment now is for  exploring The flock it joined, as ‘One’, are  soaring © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2017 – Expression #171 13.10.17 – cherylmarycoleman.com I f you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. Footprints In The Sand

Image
I am fortunate enough to live in Perth where we have over 80 kms of glorious sandy beaches and a further 10,000 kms around the coastline of Western Australia. I love to see the patterns that the waves can make upon the sand.  However I have always felt there is something mystical about footprints and so writing to express this came easy one day in November of 2017. Footprints in the Sand Leave your footprints in the sand From life’s long journey on this land The depth of passions, you have felt Are born from experience, you are dealt Love and joy, and, faith and hope Shield you from, that slippery slope But when at times, if you might trip Do not despair, it’s just a blip For cycles like waves, do come and go Your footsteps will meld, with life’s rich flow Whilst taking a breath, you stop to stare Then glance behind, to see what is there They’ve already left, claimed by soft lapping waves Recorded with time, as are notes from a clave © Cheryl Mary

Wolves Night Out

Image
This is one of those expressions that just came on a flight of fancy.  No truth, just purely imagination. Wolves Night Out I hear the wolves howling, and the blood, stops in my veins My breath begins to quicken, my fear, I cannot feign Will I become their dinner, beneath this bright full moon? My senses are a jangle, for I feel, I’ll know it soon Red eyes, glow in the dark, as they lock upon their target The thickly dense night air, begins to fill, with their snarling argot Then instantly, it’s silent as, my breathing joins the freeze For in that very moment, a life, was taken with such ease I realise I am thinking, with a bonus, of feeling too Which means I’m very lucky, for on me, they did not chew! © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2018  –  Expression #199  13.5.18 Image from Pixabay  ©mohamed_hassan If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day.
