Adrift

In my spare time I like to look at and enjoy the work of many great bloggers who are a part of this amazing community.  I was looking at the beautiful work of  Alex Markovich , and found I was drawn to one image in particular that he named  The Lonely Boat On his site, Alex invites us to use his images if we wish, and so I decided to save this one with the thought  “I may use that one day.” Well exactly two days later my poetic ramblings started stirring and I found myself playing with an idea.  Once completed when I read the words back I realised that the poem could be read in two ways, each with a slightly different feel. I believe the moodiness of Alex’s rich image gave rise to buried memories of a past long forgotten relationship, that needed an expression. Thank you Alex for sharing this beautiful image and I hope that my work does yours justice  I would love to hear your thoughts on which version you prefer. Blood Blue Moon

Image
On Saturday 28th July 2018, there was a Blood Full Moon event that took place for the second time this year.  The first occurred on the evening of 1st February.  There was much excitement that night, here in the Southern Hemisphere as we prepared to witness an eclipse of a Blood Blue Moon, which is a rare combination of a total eclipse (causing a red shadow), of a full blue moon. Taking a glass of wine and a camping chair, I was fortunate enough to be able to position myself in our garden and watch the whole event as it unfolded.  I have to say it was an amazing and humbling experience.  A few days later I wrote the following poem with the experience still fresh in my mind, and to celebrate the most recent event decided to share. On Saturday 28th July 2018, there was a Blood Full Moon event that took place for the second time this year.  The first occurred on the evening of 1st February.  There was much excitement that night, here in the Southern Hemisphere as we prepared to witne

Human Race

Image
I very rarely watch the news, as it is never seems to contain anything good.  As I passed through the lounge one evening to chat to my husband something caught my eye that made me sit and listen, and guess what, what I was witnessing was not good! Feeling very saddened after watching the news report I promptly went outside to sit in my favourite place for creative writing and wrote ‘Human Race.’ Human Race Most are very lucky, to have homes that keep them safe And use of modern  gadgets, some can even fly to space  Stores filled to the brim, that would feed a growing army And roads jam packed with cars, which is nothing less than barmy  All is in excess, compared to those, who came before us  Our daily news is blazoned, by who makes, the biggest fuss Strutting like a peacock, boasting all about ones riches  When still the needy starve and sleep, curled up, in dank dark ditches  Nothing really changes, no matter what the century  Many spend their lives, held

Ticking Heart

Image
Ticking Heart My life is being measured, like the  ticking of a  clock Or gentle waves that lap, on a boat within a  dock How many of my minutes, do I have left yet to spend? My heart just keeps on beating, like a drum that knows no  end The constellations high above have shined for eons of  time As constant guides that still burn bright and share the sky,  entwined Quietly I sit and ponder under, this nights  sky    I wonder if my ticking heart will let me reach new  highs And  so  I set to using, these moments with loving  care   That   I may gather seeds of joy and with others, I can  share © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2017  –  Expression #115 27.3.17 If you enjoyed this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. Loaded Spring

Loaded Spring Such madness is, a loaded spring Compressed with love, that might have been I do not like, it way down here This darkness is, my ruling fear I long to be, in the sunlight And race the clouds, within the night Who will rescue, me from this place And seal a smile, upon my face But now my thoughts, begin to swing Such madness is, a loaded spring © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2018  –  Expression #210 20.7.18  If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. The Quickening

Image
On the evening of 7th October 2016 as I was sat in the garden, thinking of my husband I was distracted when I  heard our gate, click.  This became the trigger that set in motion my emotions and thoughts of our marriage.  This poem is dedicated to my wonderful husband Roland Alan Coleman and the years we have shared together to date. The Quickening The click of the gate alerts me you’re  home   Your travels of late from where you did roam.  Thoughts of our love begin to  soar   A leap of my heart, as you walk through the door.  Your eyes reignite the passion once  felt   My heart now feeling, as if it could melt.  The quickening of love embodied as  one   Returns me to you in a moment, undone.  © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2016  –  Expression #49  7.10.16  If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day. I have always had the perspective of viewing life with a  ‘glass half full’  perspective.  I try to retain a sense of positivity in all situations however challenging. But sometimes, just sometimes, I slip and then that veil dissolves and I see the world so differently. Very recently as I lent an ear to a dear friend who was needing to share life from her perspective, (which sadly was from a place of sorrow)  I couldn’t help but identify with things that came up.  This poem highlights my thoughts and feelings that rose as a result of our shared conversations. Yearning I’m feeling so unsettled, my head is in a whirl My heart feels old and tired, I cannot find it’s pearl The body aches from shaking, as the Earth erupts again I do not wish to be here, for my life is such a strain The light within my eyes, is tainted by the horrors  Of man’s attempts to covert, whilst inflicting pain and terrors I cannot find the answer, and it’s driving me insane Of how we’re mea

The Dark

Image
I love to listen to nature first thing in the morning as everything is waking up, but night time, has an eerie quality about it, magnifying all sounds, especially bumps in the night!! The Dark The sky tonight is inky black and no stars, can I  see   An eerie silence hangs in the air, as life it seems, did  flee   My eyes do search to look beyond what seems to be the  end   The garden wall holds back the night in case it’s just  pretend   Then comfort comes to break the night, from a bullfrog in the  park   A welcome sound that let’s me know, I’m not alone within the  dark © Cheryl Mary Coleman, 2017  –  Expression #142  31.5.17 If you like this poem please feel free to share, as it may just be what someone needs to brighten their day.
